Since 2010, Barcelona native and Beijing resident Pere Ibañez has earned international recognition for his emotionally-charged artwork. Drawing inspiration from the dramatic and suspenseful styles of genre films, with images that seek to explore aspects of human nature that often go underplayed and trivialised. Instead, through photography and poetry, Ibañez magnifies both the falls and ascensions of the human experience through his own lens.
Recipient of multiple awards across the globe, such as Leonardo Da Vinci International Prize, Botticelli Award or Career Art Prize. Pere Ibañez’s works have been featured in exhibitions and publications across the US, Asia and Europe; with some of his photo-books ranking #1 in Apple Books sales for art eBooks.
His large body of work has explored themes of domestic violence, societal pressure, racism and mental health, in 2021 released ‘Pedro’, a tribute to his late father that drifted far from the dark nature of his early work and this one was followed by his most successful collection to date, ‘Dream On, We’re Almost Home’; series that embodied poetry and surrealism wholeheartedly while diving into the subconscious and the world of dreams.
During his career he has collaborated with NGO’s on different projects, in 2012 with Canadian NGO Peace For Humanity they developed the project ‘Break the Silence’ which turned into the book ‘The Leftlovers’ and a series of exhibitions in China spreading awareness on the subject.
From 2017 to 2019 collaborated with Chinese NGO ‘CandleX’ on a project to spread awareness on Bipolar Disorder in Beijing and Shanghai, holding events and exhibitions and eventually publishing the book ‘Syzygy’.
In 2024, together with Chinese musician Seni Ren formed the electronic rock band Sonic Panda, where Ibañez acts as lead singer and song-writer. At the end of the summer they released their first single, ‘Life is a flower’, a rock version of a 90s pop classic, and soon after signed with Spanish record label No Where Records with who are producing original songs that will be released during the years of 2025-2026.
This incursion into the music scene puts a halt in the photographic career of the artist that aims to focus solely on this new project. And ‘Ultraviolence’ serves as a collection of mementos and hightlights of the 15 year career of the artist, which includes remasters of some of his iconic portraits, commissions, unreleased photographs and brand new works that had not been released before.
